My Review: A riveting read from start to finish.
The book is told from three the perspective female characters: - Evie - 16 years earlier she accidentally killed her father and she has rebuilt her life and comes home to find her husband dead from a gunshot wound. - DD - A senior policewoman who first questioned Evie all those years ago. - Flora - The survivor of a violent kidnapping, and now works as DD's confidential informant. From the very first chapter I was hooked. Why did Evie act so unexpectedly when she found her husband's body? The book looks at the old case of Evie's father in more detail. DD is adamant Evie isn't going to get away again. Yet, when her informant Flora recognises Evie's husband, there is more than meets the eye in both deaths. Everyone is harbouring secrets. Flora's story is heartbreaking, her courage seeps through with her every action - I hope to see more of her in the future! I read this in as close to one sitting as possible, with meals and sleep getting in the way. A brilliant book. And if you like Karin Slaughter and Gillian Flynn do not hesitate to read Never Tell. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Thank you so much the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary electronic copy in return for an honest review.

My Review: First things first: Widows' Revenge is the sequel to Widows, which has recently been given the Hollywood treatment. The film has had good reviews and I am looking forward to seeing it.
I love Lynda La Plante's books. And I'd highly recommend both the Jane Tennison (Prime Suspect and the Tennison prequel) and the Anna Travis' series. As such I was delighted to receive an advance copy of Widows' Revenge. WIDOWS' REVENGE concentrates on Dolly and her band of accidental thieves - the widows of proper London criminals. The story contains many characters but thanks to La Plante’s superior storytelling you know exactly who everyone is at all times. The story is fast-paced and very engaging. It was pure escapism. With twists and turns and even heartache. You're rooting for Dolly and the girls, but they seem to be thwarted at every turn. I read the story over two days in the best possible surroundings (in the sun). VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Thank you so much the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary electronic copy in return for an honest review. 8/1/2019 0 Comments Review: The Banker's Wife
My Review: The Banker's Wife has been out as an e-book since July 2018, and this review coincides with the paperback release (out 10 January 2019).
Annabel is the Banker's Wife, and now that her husband is dead, she needs to rebuild her life. She is super suspicious about how he came to be in the wrong country, on the wrong plane, with the wrong wrong. And everyone she talks to her tells her she can trust no one. Marina was looking to retire from journalism when her boss gets murdered and she is determined to follow-up on what he has started. Ms Alger navigates you through the murky world of private and offshore banking so you know enough without being crushed by boring facts and legal jargon. Annabel and Marina's respective stories merge beautifully. The dramatic pace is brilliant, and every paragraph seems to invoke more tension and drama. It's a dead heat for who can be in the most danger at any one time; Annabel or Marina. I did predict the final twist and it brought a smile to my face as the book came to close. But for the rest it was a riveting romp. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I have seen that it is soon to be made into a television series, which is perfect, and I hope it brings a bigger audience to this deserving thriller. Thank you so much the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary electronic copy in return for an honest review. 31/12/2018 0 Comments Review: Codename Villanelle
My Review: As I've been travelling I must be the only person left in the UK yet to see Killing Eve! But before I watch the acclaimed television programme, I had to read the book that inspired the series.
The book had an interesting inception having originally published as ebook singles: Codename Villanelle, Hollowpoint, Shanghai and Odessa. It was just what I wanted from a crime thriller. It's hard to imagine such fun in the murky world of criminality and murder for hire, but it delivered on entertainment. It's a short, quick read, that races on. The icing on the cake is the strong female leads – bravo! I can't wait to watch the television programme. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Thank you so much the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary electronic copy in return for an honest review. 3/12/2018 0 Comments Review: The Hunting Party
My Review: A modern day Agatha Christie.
As the front covers says everyone’s invited, everyone’s a suspect. Halfway through the book you’re so acquainted with the characters they’re practically friends. And yet you still you have no idea who the killer is OR the victim. The level of suspense is precariously high, but it stands strong. There are clues on every page, from the party of friends, the staff, and the surprise Icelandic visitors. Even as the book was coming to a close, all the secrets and lies kept tumbling, keeping the true killer out of sight until the very end. Bravo Ms Foley! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
